Hoss Review

Hoss was Lagwagon's first venture into their softer sound, which they are faintly resembling in their songs now.

Their turn into the softer style was welcomed and comforted by punks and music critics around the world (as stated in the band bio), and it might be said that  Violins is Lagwagon's claim to punk fame. This was one of the first Lagwagon songs I heard all those years ago, and it still does the same for me as it did back then. Lagwagon decided it was time for a change, and aborted their speed metal-kinda sound and pace guitar riffs, to replace them with clean power chords and softer lyrics.

A noteable song on this CD is the excellent little tune Black Eyes. The song contains no extra special bass lines, guitar riffs, or even crazy drumming, but still manages to get you going in traditional Lagwagon style.

Another song to be given credit is Kids Don't Like to Share. This is the title track of Hoss, and starts out with a nice bass tune by Jesse, and then blows into a great peice of rock in traditional Lagagon gusto and style.

Hoss might be noted as Lagwagon's turn for better or worse depending on whether you like their new music or not, but I know that Lagwagon are still the great band that they were before the release of this fine little piece of pop-punk sounds.
